Local first

About Ocean State Index
Ocean State Index is a local directory built to help people discover the businesses that make Rhode Island what it is. From neighborhood staples to new favorites, we’re creating a cleaner, more useful way to explore what’s nearby without the clutter, spam, or generic feel of the big platforms.
Built for locals, visitors, and business owners who want a stronger local web.
Rhode Island has no shortage of great local businesses, but finding them online can still feel harder than it should. Search results are crowded, social media is messy, and too many small businesses get buried behind chains, ads, or outdated information.
Ocean State Index is our answer to that. We wanted something that feels local, useful, and easy to trust. A place where someone can quickly find a marine service in Warwick, a coffee shop in Newport, or a contractor in North Kingstown without digging through ten tabs first.
We focus on Rhode Island and the businesses that actually serve its communities.
Clear details, better organization, and less clutter so people can find what they need faster.
The directory can expand over time with more towns, more categories, better listings, reviews, claims, and owner tools.
We’re building the directory one real business at a time.
Each listing starts with public business information like location, category, contact details, hours, and service data.
We organize and clean the information so the directory is easier to browse and more consistent to use.
Over time, business owners will be able to claim listings, update details, respond to reviews, and add more context to their presence.
Find local businesses by town, category, or need, whether you’re looking for something nearby or planning ahead.
Get discovered more easily, build trust with better information, and eventually manage your listing directly.
Ocean State Index is still growing, but the goal is simple: make it easier to find great Rhode Island businesses and give them a better place to be found. We’re starting with the foundation and building from there.
